This October, Galway City once again became the beating heart of Samhain - Ireland’s original Halloween - with Gaillimh Ah-Boo!, a vibrant city-wide celebration of food, folklore, and feasting along the Wild Atlantic Way.
Among the highlights of this year’s festivities was ROGU’s spectacular fire and light show, “Tine Lasta (The Lighting Flame)”, a performance that quite literally set Samhain traditions alight.
A Fusion of Fire, Performance, and Myth
Performed as part of Galway’s Home of Halloween programme, Tine Lasta combined circus and fire performance with dance, theatre, and the illusions of magic to create a breathtaking display of movement and energy. Each moment felt alive - flames twisting through the night air, shadows dancing across faces, and the crowd completely absorbed in the performance.
ROGU’s artistry pushes the boundaries of what fire performance can be. Blending tradition and innovation in a way that perfectly captures the spirit of Samhain: a celebration of transformation, reflection, and renewal.
About Gaillimh Ah-Boo!
A play on the rousing cry “Gaillimh abú!”, Gaillimh Ah-Boo! transforms Galway into Ireland’s ultimate Halloween destination. This year’s festival featured the iconic Macnas Parade, eerie Dark History Tours with Experience Galway, Comedy Nights with the Galway Comedy Festival, and Blás na Samhain - a series of intimate supper clubs inspired by Irish mythology.
Visitors also discovered art installations by Rita Duffy, community dance performances, storytelling trails, and a moving Día de los Muertos procession led by Galway’s Mexican community.
It’s a season that celebrates heritage, harvest, and imagination, inviting locals and visitors alike to embrace their inner mischief and magic.
